Announcing Monica Lozano’s Departure and the Search for the Next CEO of College Futures

The past few years have brought about profound changes in California’s education and workforce landscapes. In my role on the board of College Futures Foundation—and now as the board chair—I am honored every day to champion equity of opportunity for California’s diverse students, and especially honored to have worked alongside our CEO Monica Lozano.

As head of College Futures Foundation, Monica has led the organization through these challenges and opportunities with tremendous passion, intelligence, commitment, integrity, humility, and grace. She came into the role a respected and influential leader with experience in business, news media, philanthropy, and education. Her clarity of vision and dedication to working in partnership has strengthened and evolved College Futures’ strategies and ability to effect systemic change.

We on the board share a strong commitment to the organization and its strategic direction. We continue to be guided by the core values of equity, community, courage, and curiosity. Systems change and movement building remain core principles. Students’ lived experiences and post-college outcomes continue to guide our thinking.

At the end of January, Monica announced her departure, though she will stay on until her successor has been identified. We wish to thank her for her service, thought partnership, and companionship in work that is, for the College Futures board and staff, truly a labor of love.

We have engaged the executive search firm WittKieffer to assist us in an open, intentionally inclusive, and thorough search and hiring process. The board will take its time in finding the right candidate and work closely with our search committee as well as with Monica and the College Futures staff to ensure a smooth transition in the months to come.
