Philanthropy for Democracy: Speaking Out Against Political Violence & Racism
This is a moment in history like no other and we cannot be silent in the face of hatred, bigotry, and white supremacy.
The violence perpetrated at the U.S. Capitol last week both angered and motivated me.
Those of us in philanthropy must use every tool at our disposal to fight for justice, for an anti-racist society, and for human rights. This is a moment to examine ourselves in the mirror as a society and tell the truth. We must do more than dream of an equitable civil society. We must rededicate our philanthropic privilege to standing together for justice.
On behalf of College Futures Foundation and in honor of the many students we serve and the country they will inherit and enhance, I signed onto this letter calling upon our leaders to protect our democracy, our civil society, and our nation’s diverse people.
Moving forward from this moment will take much more than signing letters, I know. However, just as we cannot be paralyzed by seemingly intractable issues when action is required, we must not be silent when our voices matter.
In solidarity,
