New Initiative Wants to Help College Students – Monterey Herald

Students, get your keyboards ready. Donors, get your wallets ready.
A new initiative by the Community Foundation of Monterey County will make it easier for low-income students to gain access to scholarship money for higher education. And for potential donors, an incentive to contribute to their efforts.
It’s called the College Futures Monterey County and it’s part of a state-wide program intended to increase college graduation rates. It has three components: an initial grant of up to $400,000 provided by the College Futures Foundation to match local contributions to a scholarship fund, support to low-income students in seven high schools to help them navigate the college experience and a portal that allows those students to apply for several scholarships with one application.
